Estrada Courts, located in Boyle Heights and one of L.A.'s oldest housing projects, was built to address the housing shortage as Los Angeles and the surrounding region became a major center for military-related manufacturing during WW2
Several years ago I took a stroll through the Estrada Courts housing projects to document some of it's well known and maybe not so well known murals. I photographed just a few of the 80 murals that were painted by Chicano and Chicana muralists with the help of young residents back in the early 70's
